The expression "pay it forward" is used to describe the concept of asking that a good turn be repaid by having it done to others instead. More specifically, the creditor offers the debtor the option of "paying" the debt forward by lending it to a third person instead of paying it back to the original creditor. Debt and payments can be monetary or by good deeds. In sociology, this concept is called "generalized reciprocity" or "generalized exchange". A related transaction, which starts with a gift instead of a loan, is alternative giving.

Benjamin Franklin described the action in a letter to Benjamin Webb over 220 years ago and we want the concept to continue on in assisting in others lives.

“I do not pretend to give such a Sum; I only lend it to you. When you [...] meet with another honest Man in similar Distress, you must pay me by lending this Sum to him; enjoining him to discharge the Debt by a like operation, when he shall be able, and shall meet with another opportunity. I hope it may thus go thro' many hands, before it meets with a Knave that will stop its Progress. This is a trick of mine for doing a deal of good with a little money.”

Each week we will feature a new pool to continue our tradition of “Paying it Forward”…
If you have a charity that you would like to have featured, please send us information through the Contact Us link.  We will review it and maybe you will be able to have a pool featured for your organization or charity!

IC WINNERS

While not the stats guru like SoupCan, I. C. Winners can still mix it up with the best of them in a sports forum. In his high school and college days, he was a thoroughbred of knowledge but has since moseyed out to pasture to enjoy action at a more focused and subtle pace. His 2007 campaign was a year like no other going 17-1 heading into bowl season where he finished out with a 26-7 record overall.

SOUP CANNED

Wily veteran who would give any sports savant a run for his money. His love of sports is many, yet his true love is baseball. He is a diehard Sox fan while also love's college hoops. One thing to remember, if you ever get into a conversation with him at a bar and think you can stump him on stats, make sure that you have your deep pockets to buy plenty of rounds of drinks.
